High speed and scalable internet connectivity for St Helena.

Written by on January 1, 2020

The St Helena Government has signed a contract with google to connect the Island of St Helena to the Equiano Subsea cable project; this means that St Helena will soon have high speed and scalable internet connectivity that is scheduled to be delivered to St Helena by early 2022.

The capability of the Equiano Subsea cable once connected will enable St Helena to send and receive gigabytes and terabits of data across the internet.

The Island and the St Helena Government is now in the process of preparing for the cable delivery including the implementation of legal processes and associated planning permission to start work for the cable arrival.

The cable project will change the way of life on St Helena and it will bring endless opportunities for both the home user, business sector and economic development including the possibility of satellite ground station technology, financial services research, conferences, and tourism growth.

The timing of the connectivity to googles Equiano cable also aligns with EDF requirements and the Digital ICT Strategy for St Helena.

Soon we will also be chatting on the St Helena Podcast about St Helena and the Equiano Subsea Cable.
